Interested in playing Free Online Backgammon Tournaments?
Getting set up for free online backgammon tournaments against fellow Australians and New Zealanders involves 3 steps.
STEP 1 Sign-up for a Heroes Account
The Heroes free plan requires an invitation from an existing Heroes account holder. If you need an invite and live in Victoria (or close by), please reach out via our Contact Page.
(Please note: As there is manual approval involved on their side, please expect 1 to 3 days for your Heroes account to be up and running.)
Prefer not to wait for an invitation? You can sign up for a Heroes Premium account directly (paid plan).
Not sure where to start once you're in?
- Read the Quick Start Guide (David Sanders).
- See the full detailed walkthrough here.
- Log in directly at heroes.backgammonstudio.com.
STEP 2 Apply for ANZBGF Membership
To play in ANZBGF online events and tournaments, you must be a financial member of the Australian New Zealand Backgammon Federation (ANZBGF). You can apply for this concurrently while your Heroes account is being set up.
(Please note: There is manual processing on the ANZBGF side, so please expect 1 to 3 days for this to be finalized.)
Ready to join? Apply for ANZBGF Membership here.
What does membership get you?
- Entry into free monthly online tournaments.
- Eligibility to play in national and international ANZBGF events.
- Supporting the growth of backgammon across Australia and New Zealand.
STEP 3 Sign-up for a WarpGammon Account
Once your Heroes account and ANZBGF membership are established, the final step is to register on WarpGammon.
WarpGammin is a tournament hub where you set your availability, enter tournaments and get paired for matches.
(You must use the specific ANZBGF registration link so your account is automatically linked to our federation.)
Ready to register? Create your WarpGammon account here.
What happens next?
- Set your available playing times on the platform.
- Join the free tournaments that start at the beginning of every month!
- Schedule matches againt other ANZBGF members, report your wins and track your national rating progress.
STEP 4 Sign-up with WBIF (Optional International Money Tournaments)

The WBIF require an annual registration fee plus a payment for most tournaments you enter.
(We highly recommend playing on WarpGammon for a while first to get comfortable with the format before playing money tournaments.)
