Australia’s top 4 rated players amongst the last 6 contenders for the 2020 Vic Open. The cancellation of the world-championships was disappointing for all, so magical Monte Carlo became the inspiration for the tournament format adopted by the Victorian Backgammon Association. The 2020 Vic Open is down to the the quarter final stage with 2 completed quarter finals, one scheduled for tonight Friday 4th December and the other on Wednesday 9th December. The Victorian Open 2020 Online Backgammon Tournament is 2 weeks in (how time flies), and we have already reached the first quarter final. It will be played between Saeed Nourmohammadi and David Wells. Both are vying for the $1200+ side pool prize. The match will be played on Backgammon Galaxy and is scheduled to commence at 6:30pm AEDT on Sunday 22nd November. The inaugural Victorian Open 2020 Online Backgammon Tournament has begun! We began on Sunday night with a live draw via video link. Around 20 people attended to see who they would face in the first round. We have 59 participants from Australia, New Zealand, Turkey and Iran. 17 of the participants elected to enter the side pool. With 15-point matches in the Main Flight, many highly skilled players fancy their chances. The first two days of competition have been fierce. We have had 19 matches played so far. The inaugural Eva Bitel Online Tournament 2020 has now been completed, with the final being played on Tuesday 29th September, 2020. The match was played between our very own Simon Ustick, and Mick Dyett from the Newcastle Backgammon Club. Read more about the match and watch a full replay.
The final in the division 2 section of the Australian Backgammon Federation's inaugural Eva Bitel Online Tournament 2020 has been won by our very own Jesse Beer in a match to 15 points. Read more about the match and watch a full replay.
In the first semi final of the Australian Backgammon Federation's Eva Bitel Online Tournament 2020, Simon Ustick from Victoria squared off against Martin Pikler from the Australian Capital Territory. The match went right down to the wire, with Simon taking it out 15-13, to progress be the first Victorian to progress through to the final of this prestigious tournament.
The Eva Bitel Online Tournament is a brand new online tournament devised by the Australian Backgammon Federation to pay tribute to the late Eva Bitel to honour her contribution to Backgammon in Australia.. This event will be held every year and was first conducted in 2020.
